Few days after reggae star, Victor Eshiet, was
reportedly arrested in Akwa Ibom State and brought to Lagos by policemen
believed to be operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Lagos State
Police Command, the musician has said that he was kidnapped, and not arrested.
The musician noted this
in a statement made available to our correspondent on Thursday.
He linked his recent
encounter with the law enforcement agents to a previous incident that occurred
in Lagos on November 29, 2014, in which he was forcefully taken away by the
same policemen from the venue of a musical event that was holding at the
National Stadium complex in Surulere, Lagos.
Eshiet said, “I was
attacked, seriously brutalised and hospitalised for months. However, I had to
follow due process by seeking redress in the court of law against all the
parties involved as it is done in America, where I reside and other countries
in the western world. We have been attending court sessions without any of the
respondents showing up in court.”
He continued, “The
Police, acting on instruction from a certain Assistant Inspector General, were
planning to get me kidnapped because I sought redress in court against them and
the individual whom they collaborated with to infringe on my fundamental human
right. This, they achieved on Saturday morning at about 2:30 am. They came in a
convoy, numbering 15 with masks on their faces. Armed to the teeth, they
forcefully took me away in the presence of my friends and relatives who were
with me.”
